One of my pet peeves is the piss poor job that reporters do describing details anymore. I highly doubt that those young men were in a "silo" of molasses. It sounds as though it was a tank. And, I also doubt that molasses can burn someone's feet. If it’s hot out, then that’s a different story. Water would do the same. They refer to the substance as a "chemical". Well, what was the chemical? How about a little investigative reporting on some pretty important details to the story before it hits the press?

Nonetheless, it is very sad for those involved, and it sounds as though it could have been prevented. Confined spaces on a farm can be a certain death trap. We're a small family farm with one full-timer and numerous part-timers. I tend to take "point" on all the dangerous activities around here, and I certainly would NOT ask anyone to do a job that I wouldn't do myself.
