If the alley was set up inside a building then solid sheeted may make the job more difficult.

Setup outside however, the solid sheeted makes things a lot easier in my experience. Putting in the solid sliding doors rather than the see-thru one way bar gates between the tub and the alley and the alley and the chute made it much easier to work my cattle, especially if I am working alone.
