I had one spring bull calf last year that I did not cut with the rest in May hoping he would turn into a herd sire prospect. Ended up he sprouted horns and for a number of other reasons I changed my mind. Vet cut him at the fall workup in November. There was no significant difference in his weight due to leaving him whole longer than the others. He was not my largest steer. I suspect your grass is a larger factor than when cut in the comparison with your neighbors. I do like cutting rather than banding. Or just genetics. The calves cut at 250 lb seem to recover quickly on grass and it is positive. I also don't have to try to catch them and add stress after birth and usually I'm not around. jmho. Jim
