S.C. Wisconsin | A large percentage of calves die from complications from malnutrition. We feed pasteurized whole milk which a calf get 3-4 quarts per feeding twice a day. This is different than powdered powder milk maybe.The 3x feeding might be better with powdered milk. Also make sure you have new nipples on the bottles and DO NOT CUT nipple for faster feeding. A slow nipple is necessary the calf to produce a buffering agent in their saliva. If they nurse to fast it doesn't give the calf enough time to produce this buffering agent, when this is lacking it leads to scouring. Good luck. | |
