Livestock Evaluation Position


GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The primary program assignment in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University is teaching Animal Sciences 300, Livestock Selection and Evaluation students; teaches other courses consistent with area of scientific expertise; coaches University and State 4-H General Livestock Judging Teams; serves as Academic Advisor for Animal Sciences undergraduate students along with other Departmental faculty members; provides strong state-wide leadership for focused, comprehensive educational programs of excellence in youth livestock project selection, preparation and showmanship; serves as judge and support person in county fairs and similar livestock venues; assists with other youth livestock program areas as assigned in coordination with Animal Sciences faculty member who provides leadership for 4-H programs; assists Animal Sciences Student Success Center Coordinator, faculty, and staff in undergraduate student recruitment as required and assists with departmental involvement in agricultural and animal industry events; partners with Extension Specialists, Extension Educators and Assistants, 4-H Leaders, and other educational organizations, agencies, and volunteers in the state and region in programmatic endeavors; facilitates educational programs that are science-based with scholarly outcomes; recruits potential students; promote effective relationships with other Departmental, and College personnel as well as external stakeholders; develops and pursues a professional development plan to increase teaching skills, knowledge of subject matter as well as interpersonal and team skills; and functions in a proactive manner in soliciting external funding to support programming efforts. EXPERIENCE

Master of Science degree in animal sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience; livestock evaluation and coaching experience required; demonstrated evidence of effective teaching skills required; willingness to work collaboratively required; strong written and oral communication skills required; strong collegiality in work environment with flexibility in mode of functioning required; travel and evenings and weekend work required; background with livestock production systems and exposure to beef, sheep and swine production desired; strong discipline foundation in meat sciences, physiology, genetics, or nutrition as related to food producing animals desired.
