North Central MO | Not sure I understand your door positioning for sure, but here's my thoughts. Metal buildings are a pretty much a sponge for wireless signal. Do you by chance have a window in the shop on the house side??? That would be an ideal place to set an extender just inside the window of the shop. Likewise positioning the router that's in the house by the window that looks towards the shop will help get the signal out. I am using a couple of Linksys extenders since Christmas and have been impressed with them. Good Luck ....
