Subject: RE: A few questions for beef farmers

Southern Tier NY
New born calves. Trying to get an idea of the time frame needed to finish off animals raised on pasture vs. raised in feedlot, basically. Know if we feed grain to our dairy animals they reach breeding size sooner, but we don't after 6 mo. old. In past we've raised a few beef on pasture during grazing season, with hay fed over the winter. Fed some corn silage to steers this winter maybe 10-15 lbs. per day. Wondering if they will even need grain to finish. Some people saying they need 120 of heavy grain feeding to finish; seems excessive. Thought I would ask AgTalk.
