If someone loses a crop due to some factor, do you sell the land??
Educate me. Maybe I'm not seeing something....If I have a young cow lose a calf thru no fault of hers, how am I money ahead to sell her, and buy a replacement? Still gonna take the same amount of feed to get to the birth of the next calf.
I'm not sure how you equate a cow to land, I can see crop variety is equal to a cow. So I'll try and give the thoughts behind my process. To paraphrase Jim, her job is to produce a weaned calf, my job is to provide her the means to do so through feed, vacciantions, genetics, etc. If I didn't do my job I have no business working with cattle. If I did my job and she didn't, she's gone. If it is truly is no fault of hers (like the calf breaks its back, etc.) and I had high hopes for her, I might give her a second chance.
