Notre Dame is the high spot of South Bend. Studebaker Museum, I think has a new location. James Oliver started the Oliver company in South Bend. As mentioned the shopping centers are in the Grape Road area, which might even be be in Misawauka.
South Bend is a classic rust belt city. Manufacturers have long since packed up and left and not too many have returned.
