SW Saskatchewan | I don't think it is new, but of course the national olympic committees have some leeway in what they do, especially if they are a big enough country to be able to bluff the International Olympic Committee. For the Salt Lake Olympics, I doubt the IOC could do much but complain at the level the US chose to implement the "rules".
Canada doesn't have quite as much sway, and our national committee is quite anxious to make PERSONAL impressions on the IOC so as to get their own rewards, as did Dick Pound when he got promoted a few years back from he Canadian committee level to be the International Drug Testing Czar. Thus if the IOC say 'BLUE PAJAMAS', then "Blue Pajamas" it is.
It's not as if they are against politics, just any politics but their own! | |
