Access to internet will be limited by how many access points you are willing to put up, and the type of antenna you have on your laptop.

As far as reach, I'm getting 12-15 miles right now using directional panels--something like this might be suitable to link your shop.

Trees will be a problem, you need line of sight.

You might try some commercial 900mhz products that will get you near-line-of-sight.
