Denmark | I do not think so.
China wants to run the world. They are securing farm land, raw materials and technology worldwide but need to be present and visible too.
When industry products started to come from Japan in the fifties, it was sheer and utter junk. Japanese were experts in copying things though and in marketing gimmicks. Remember they named one of their small islands USA? That way they could mark products : Made in USA and in this way signal quality. Much by clever copying, the Japanese over the years learned how to build quality.
China can do things more right out as they now have the economic capacity to buy what they want, factories, brands and whatever. To get away fast from the low cost junk image, proven brands are the way. But I also think they are aware that closing down Volvo and moving production to China now, will do evil things to the Volvo image. Keeping producing in Sweden will surely give a lift to future Volvos produced in China and/or elsewhere.
Just my opinion. History will prove it right or wrong.
