Subject: Re: basement flooded need help

Marengo, Iowa
There are some things (believe it or not) the government has done well in the past ~ one is to compile information on how to recover from flooding in a home. Here is a link to get you started to find the info ~ once you haul out the appliances (to the dump ~ can't recycle if they don't work) your work has just begun ~ if you ever hope that humans will live in this house again you need to dry out the basement and start fighting the molds and mildew before spring and hot, humid summer hit.

Our experience has come from going thru the Great Flood of 1993 and the Greater Flood of 2008 here in Iowa on the Iowa River. We managed to keep the water seeping into the basement down to 12 inches with two sump pumps running constantly to keep it out of the furnace and water heater which were raised on blocks because we often have seasonal seeping of 2-3 inches but the mold and mildew have been our greatest challenge years afterward. Your local county emergency/disaster office/person will have good info, too.

You can dislike government agencies, but learn to respect the peons who put together the material on how to deal with the muck of a basement flood.

Good luck!
