North End I-15 | But it is pretty cool . :>)
The difference betweem a cannon and a mortar is the angle the projectile is fired . Most of the mortars built to old scale , shoot @ a fixed 45 degree angle. Cannons shoot @ flatter angles .
Last August we had a fellow with a Water Jug Mortar (shot 5 gallon ,Cement filled water jugs ) load up a pound and 1/2 of FG Black powder and fired one of my bowling balls off the powder chamber. It went 2.85 miles . took months to find it . Discovered in a road ditch by Home Land Security Border Patrol Officer . He was @ cannon shoot so he knew where it came from :>)
Mine will lob a 10 lb ball in the 2100 + foot distance . It only used 3.5 oz of black powder. Pretty distance for powder spent. 200 yard shots are 1.2 oz with 15lb balls .
Plans in the works for a long range shooter . The steel for the powder chamber is $375 @ remnant price . Location is west coast Seattle area .
Plans first , money second . road trip 3rd. :>) | |
