Ellsworth IL | Are you guys sure you want a chatroom connected to the site ? Chats work great among groups of friends , nothing better for online communication , but when it's opened to anyone and everyone it can get quite messy with lots of in-fighting and trolls and can require a lot of moderation to keep everyone happy .
I watched two fairly popular message boards die directly because of chatrooms , the fighting spilled out from the chatroom out to the main board , made it a nightmare to moderate , good regular members were drawn into the battle, TOS's were violated in ways that couldn't be ignored and popular people were either getting banned or leave . pretty soon the whole place is in a shambles and it gets closed up because it isn't worth the site owners headaches anymore .
It's a lot easier to take care of when say for example, Rich has his own chatroom , someone screws up , they get booted, and pretty much end of problem. They may post on the message board , "I got booted from Rich's room" everyone responds "aww, sucks to be you" . They then have the option of creating their own chatroom for like minded people or not but the message board that spawned the group of friends using the chatroom stays clean from hassle and headache .
Just offering up a little past experience . Chatrooms are a great thing, but care has to be taken . | |
