There are reasons why the antenna is placed above the front axle on a 4wd tractor. The primary reason is that this point is where the tractor pivots on its own axis. What I mean here is that if you park the tractor stationary, turn the wheel and you see that the antenna has very little movement left or right. Too far back and the tractor will think it is turning in the opposite direction. Even the factory fit Autopilot on CNH 4wd drive machines sits too far back relative to the 'optimum' position but there are other reasons for this.

Good luck with the install. You are quite right in you comment regarding fitting it is the only way to learn the system and support it properly!!
