North End I-15 | A Texaco Service Station did a publicity Hula Hoop contest .
First prize was a transistor pocket radio !
It was the Grand Opening and the fellow wanted to draw as much traffic as possible .
He figured it would be over in a half hour or so . Well folks the lure of a transistor radio was mighty strong for a couple of 8 year old girls . So on and on and on , hour after hour , finally down to two
The two remaining little girls were not about to give up such a highly desirable prize , they gritted there teeth and with added resolve , hung in there .
Parents were worried ,Traffic blocked the streets , water was passed to the Hooper's hoping one would quit for a rest room break .
Nearly 5 hours in to the contest it worked , tears were shed by the weak bladder girl , but she did win a free hula hoop .
I think my cousin , the winner , still has the radio . :>) | |
