Texas/New Mexico Stateline
In your part of the world, no-till or very minimal till will be the way to go. There are some other guys on here that really know their stuff about dry farming in your part of the world. I'm in a pretty arid area also, and it is hard going two years in a row and no wheat crop. I did it in '08 and '09. I bet I didn't cut 500 bu total those years. CRC insurance really helps out, fills in the dips. Really hard to keep buying fertilizer if you aren't harvesting anything. My best advice is to be sure you are always in good enough financial shape that you can miss a crop or two and keep going. When you do hit it big it will all average out.
