southern MN | You are hooked up at ethernet 100 speed to your network. That is what you are 'measuring'. The speed of data transfer on the cable between your computer and the modem/router box.
The internet is coming in to your reciever & router at a different speed, but your computer doesn't really see that speed.
There are sites that you can hook up to & they will time your up/download speed.
However it takes a lot of data to flow to get a good reading, so those sites do limit you some, or they get overwhelmed.
