Only bird that tame and stupid that I can think of would be a spruce chicken (grouse). They are not protected that I know of. They are easy to get close enough to possibly kill by throwing a stone, a 22 makes it easy. Another story I have heard is that that porcupine was considered a survival food.

When I worked up north, we saw fat spruce grouse everywhere. Someone bought a 410, and we filled up a bag of grouse breasts, poured in the Shake 'n Bake and had a damn fine chicken dinner.
