Subject: JD S-780 question, Feed accelerator, swept back plates or slow down kit.

SE South Dakota
Looking to improve grain quality, ie cracks mostly in corn. But will run the machine on all our soybean acres too. Discussion with my local JD dealer, service manager was along the line of either would be good to improve grain quality. But he strongly suggests, from two customer experiences, to NOT run the slow down kit on the feed accelerator WITH the swept back plates. He said that doing so this causes the corn ears to come back around again on top of the feed accelerator. He said you would know this was happening by a rumble and vibration under the cab. Even noticed some metal cracks above the feed accelerator on one of the machines.

We have run the serrated swept back plates with, what I think are good results in keeping from cracking the corn. But I haven't any experience with the feed accelerator slow down kit. Which option would be the best?

Corn and soybeans only.

What say you all?

Thanks, Jim J
