Faunsdale, AL | I made a fuel tank for a small engine that I needed extended run time on an irrigation sprinkler traveler. Used a 1-1/2” nipple and galvanized threaded pipe cap for the filler on an old Freon drum.
I soon discovered the bare threads would allow air in just fine, so no fuel starvation issue from vacuum locking. But it also sucked in water just about as well. Since the tank was constantly wet with spray from the sprinkler impact hammer, the amount of water was a problem! Simple solution was to wire a piece of tarp so it shed the water off the top of the tank.
Incidentally that was a Briggs engine that had its own plastic tank on it. I can’t remember a problem the few times I used it pulling fuel from the small tank before I made the bigger one. | |
