Ken,you should do this in the fall for best results.DAP then also works well.Calcium nitrate also but can do that about anytime rain is forecast.Asparagus/rhubarb did always preform well back in the day when we had manures.Mom would pile the hot stuff on in the fall.As a kid I was what the heck.Manures are almost not available here so with acres of the above we use reg ferts.
