Currently just running a rubber duck antenna. Any recommendations for an affordable antenna to mount on a taller nearby post while leaving the globe close to the ground? Will any GMRS antenna in the 450-470 mhz range work? Do I want something very specific to my licensed frequency or will a wider band antenna not matter much? Do I want an antenna with a lot of gain or not? Primarily want to cover East and West more than North and South if that matters. Probably won't cover all my fields anyway as I am using Fallback quite a bit now. Just thinking I could maybe upgrade my system for not many $$$$
Omnidirectional works fine, you can find a lot that cover the full range.
I run an 11 dB Laird antenna. Helped stretch out my range quite a bit.
l-com.com is a good source.
Tessco is another.
Something like this, just make sure you get the right coaxial connection.

If you need coax, get it from l-com.com
LMR 400 at least.
