We have steer barn that is 41 x 120 we have 3 pens and will put up to 40 hd in a pen. They have no outside space either. we feed Holsteins as well. The nice part about groups of 40 is we could start contracting which gave us protection starting out and still some days now that's still helps give us a reliable income/ profit. The other thing is with the groups we can spread out the buying /selling to make cash flow more steady in a way.
I could have almost written this myself.
My barn is setup very similar, and I had the same intentions. I do wish I made the pens larger though because it's not enough space for 40 head, that's enough bedded area but with a scrape alley included bedding goes fast. The roof was getting pin holes in it about 5 years in. |
