If you've ever worked logging, or oilfield, fencing in rough terrain you'll appreciate tall lace ups. Saves on twisted ankles, etc. I prefer lace ups. However pain in the butt if having to switch from irrigation boots, milking boots and also horseback riding where a person should wear a slip on boot with heels. I got a pair like those of Curtis's in Hawthorn brand. I had to have lug soles replaced with smooth soles because they catch on equipment steps for me. I preferred smooth soles on all my boots, they also don't track mud as bad.
