We have most of our fields that look like Mac's picture above. For instance in corn you can make two six row passes around a field before the bin gets full and the third pass will make two bins, same for beans. I built "rootzilla" for this problem but don't get to use it as much as I should, it works better when dry and some spots need done every year, most get a pass every three years and it does make a huge difference.
The blade goes about 20-24" deep with added weights and it is backswept to leave the crap underground. It will drag some and need lifted occasionally. Only takes 100 horse to pull it unless you want to go fast.
