The other side of the coin is that 175 PSI may be just fine.
I put a 175 one on my 125 PSi single stage compressor probably 20 years ago. Probably the last 10 it has no regulator at all. I do watch and make sure it doesn't get to hot.
So far so good!
I probably have reduced the pump life some.
