Subject: 7220 Magnum Hydraulic noise

Having a strange noise coming from the hydraulic pump on my 7220. Recently bought the tractor with unknown hours, shows 2000 hours but going to assume it’s 12,000.

When starting the tractor cold, 9/10 times it will make a very harsh hydraulic noise about 1 second after startup that will taper down into a groan. The other 1/10 times and when the tractor is even somewhat warm it just goes straight into the groan at startup.

New fluid, new filters. Suction screen was cleaned 300 hours ago per the paint pen writing on the housing. I skipped over it when changing the fluids because I didn’t have a new gasket and it had been done fairly recently.

What’s puzzling me is when the 3 point is in upward motion the noise goes away. In any position while the 3 point arms are still, the noise is there.

Is it the screen or something more complicated?
