Subject: Flexicoil air cart meter roll options

McCanna, ND
Finishing up my new to me flexicoil air cart and am at the point I need to figure out which meter rolls I want to go with. Aircart is almost 100% dedicated to strip till so seeding doesn’t concern me much.

Cart is set up with 3 tanks and independent drive for each tank. I’m not sure whether fine or coarse rollers will be best as I see pros/cons for both depending if we are VR or flat rate app. Currently we flat rate apply fertilizer one tank at a time at ~175-250lbs/ac, no urea just P,K,S, micros. With zone sampling and individual products in each tank I can see 0-100lbs/ac product going down when we VR.

My concern is lack of metering accuracy/hydraulic motor speed at low rates with a coarse meter. On the flip side not every field will be VR this year so will be running our usual flat rate of fertilizer and don’t know if a fine meter running from one tank could do 200lbs/ac.

Which meter makes the most sense?
