Yeah 2x2 means 2" too the side and 2" BELOW THE SEED so the nodal roots can intercept the nutrient band.

Those Deere openers aren't capable of 2x2, but IIRC there is a depth adjustment for the gauge wheel, yours might be set too shallow.
Those Deere openers are too hard/costly to maintain, Yetter 4000's seem to be much much more stout and have a deep band ability.
