Subject: Racoon advise please

Southern Ontario
Hello Gentlemen
4AM currently.
My dear Wife woke me up about 2 hours ago hearing a strange noise.
We quickly assessed it was probably a racoon in attic.
Never had any animal in attic before.
I immediately made numerous very loud thumps on the attic hatch.
The attic noise seemed to stop almost immediately.
I went to garage and got the ladder.
Went up to attic and saw no major changes or damages but perhaps some insulation missing by a dormer.
It is very cold here now, after a warm spell, figure the coons are now looking for warmer spot.
Quickly inspected roof with flashlight and saw no animals or obvious points of entry.....will inspect better at daylight.
I went back to garage and unpacked some XMAS lights.
I strung up a couple strings of flashing and color changing lights in the attic.
I also added a couple of those rotating multi color projector lights as well.
So there are red, blue, white, green flashing and dancing and rotating Santas, deer, snowflakes flashing sweeping all throughout the attic walls and underside of roof deck.
Hopefully racoons do not like discos.
Since we have not heard anything for over 2 hours, so has the animal vacated?
Do they hate the movement and flashing from the lights?
Are these lights useless?
Should I add a bright white work light?
A radio?
What do you guys do, never had this before.
Hopefully can get a bit of sleep before dawn, then will dig into finding entry point.
Hopefully the animal has exited.....how are your sure if I find and seal the entry point, I am not locking it in?
Cheers
Thx.
Ed
