We built a new house in new housing area in our small town and when we turn on water faucet this awful smelly water comes out. We're the first home in here and I told the city to flush out main lines a couple weeks ago and they're going to flush them again tomorrow. I had that rod in hot water heater cut off and removed and I flushed the water heater out twice today and still smells. The hot water smells the worst. My wife says it smells like rotten eggs, more like a sulfur smell or will chlorine make it smell? Do I have to put in some type of filtering system for this? The house sat empty all winter and plan on moving in a couple weeks.

Rotten egg smell is usually magnesium in the water. If it was a well, shocking the well would help. Do you know how the city lines run? Hopefully the main feed line doesn't dead head at the end of your block, hopefully there's a loop in play.
