We had a community meeting yesterday, have been offered 2 historical old rail-road buildings, about 25 road miles from our town. We are wanting them to enhance our town restoration project.
Both are large, old depot style. They would have to be moved through a large city to us. Too much involved
SO, we are looking at floating them on a barge, some 100 miles, ( complicated water routes), then trucking them. Now they sit fairly close to a waterway. 1/2 mile on land to load, about 5 miles on land after unloading.
Mover says possible, he has barged large homes before. Working on price, I ballpark half a million.
Very surprising the financial help being offered by foundations, individuals, RR clubs etc. Not seeking government funding.
I am not convinced feasible, both financially and logistically.
Very skeptical, I am
