Unless you have HID lighting of some kind already so you have the mogul sockets, the cob type bulbs I’ve seen require one. They also benefit from the white or aluminum reflector of the HID/Nickle metal hydride fixture.
I think the ones linked above with the adjustable panels will be a better option than the corncob type.
