N.W. Ohio | Have only planted corn behind a rye cover crop once because I was advised they didn’t play well together. That year the yield was respectable, but not great. I did spread rye on half a field and later strip till just like your describing. But for whatever reason, I chickened out and planted the field to soybeans. If the rye is kept pretty much out of the strips and terminated about time of planting corn does it not have any allopathic effect? I feel this would be my next possible boost for improvement of my clay soils, just hesitant to make the move for fear of setting back my corn yields. | |
