Mid-Michigan | I don't know either. My cover crop isn't anywhere near what you have. I just plant Veatch, raddish and wheat. I worry way more about being dry and my cover crop drying things out. I kill it early but not much before I plant because I want to avoid any compaction (as much as I can). I really like planting into the dead mat left by the cover crop as it shades the ground and conserves moisture. I guess if I didn't have tile the decision might be different. I've had very good luck growing soys on droughthy type ground using cover crops after wheat. Been doing this for probably 20 years and have no plans to quit. One thing I do is add my pre with my burndown but not sure that would work in your situation. | |
