I assume this isn't your garden variety crop insurance? The article makes it sound like their crop insurance was tied to the amount of officially measured rainfall. Never heard of that.

Since nobody measures pasture yield, the RMA decided that average rainfall and departure thereof would be an accurate predictor of yield and that the local NOAA data could be used as a claim trigger.
It is still petty mischief to tamper with your neighbor's rain gauge, but not a federal crime unless it is one of their gauges as part of a larger scheme. |
