Ah, when you get a bit farther down the physics rabbit hole you get to frames of reference and relativity.  The acceleration or negative acceleration or deceleration is all relative to someone’s frame of reference.  We just usually use the viewpoint of someone else standing on earth but we are spinning around the Earth’s center of gravity, revolving around the sun, spiraling in the Milky Way, etc.  So from the perspective of a passing comet we are accelerating and moving in circles and arcs and such.  Eventually, if you are in a skyscraper or airplane or certain areas of the earth where the crust is more dense there are measurable differences because of the Earth’s gravitational pull.  But you have to journey down the math and physics path for a while until this becomes second nature to understand the underlying math of what we all take for granted with our own eyes.
