EC SoDak | It widens as you near it typically. For instance, Dec 24 to July 25 has a spread of 22 cents right now, I’d expect it to gain another 20 cents or so (I believe Dec 23 to July 24 got as high as 47 cents last fall) as we get into fall timeframe. If we have a drought or something, then we may not get a good carry or maybe even an inverted spread.
Typically, the best time to enter into a Dec contract doesn’t align with the best time to roll and capture carry. IE: enter a Dec contract June 20th and roll to July Oct 15th for example.
