I'm sure there was a lot of ECB damage in the '70s-early '80s. We'd scout & often find "shot holes", then find the larvae. 2-3 larvae per plant? Spray.
At least there was a chance to try & control ECB with post sprays. But, you could get re-infested & have to spray again. I think most effectiveness was around 75%. Never got 100%.
