Subject: Raven 460 with/without an Ag Leader

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I am most familiar with the Ag Leader solutions for your situation.

Choice #1: Continue to use the 460. With this arrangement, the 460 would remain in the rig and be connected to an Ag Leader Application Rate Module. The connection would be via a special 9 pin connector that attaches to the 9 pin connector on the rear of the 460 and plugs into the Application rate Module with a Deutsch connector. the 460 and the Ag Leader system communicate back/forth with each other. The Raven sends back what it is doing as far as which booms are ON, the flow rate etc. From that information, the Ag Leader can compute the rate actually being applied, the area, volume totals etc. It will also create a coverage map and a rate applied map. This arrangement does not allow for auto swath automatic section control. The usual switches that controlled the sections are used as before.

A file can be created on a USB stick so that the applied rates can be changed automatically based on an Rx file on the USB stick. The Ag Leader sends over the new rates as you cross into a new application rate zone. The Raven will beep informing you that the Ag Leader has changed Rate 1 for you on the Raven. Most 460's could use this plan unless they are extremely old. This is not necessary and the operator can just enter the target rates for Rate 1 and Rate 2 directly into the Raven as before.

Choice #2: Completely remove the Raven 460 and use an Ag Leader input module and an Ag Leader product control module. The input side of things could be Ag Leader's Auxiliary Input Module and separate switch box or Ag Leader's SC110 CAN switch box that contains the circuitry of the Auxiliary Input Module. The product control module for a sprayer used to be the Liquid Product Control module. This module had inputs from the flow meter and implement switch. It had outputs for a control valve and the section valves. Ag Leader recently discontinued the Liquid Product Control module. There may be some on the used market. Some dealers might still have a new one on their shelves but they are rare. Ag Leader has now replaced the Liquid Product Control module with it successor called the L2. The L2 can use different daughter modules to build some very complex systems.

One major advantage of going with the Ag Leader two module approach is that besides all the information and mapping from the Application Rate module, you would have the ability for auto swath so the system would turn boom sections On/Off for you. The Insight would need the auto swath unlock to use this option. Since it is so handy you would want it. The newer displays such as the Integra or InCommand 1200 would have Auto swath unlocked.

Choice #2 would be more expensive but everything would be in one display. A bit of rewiring is necessary for Choice #2. If you go with Choice #1 you should get your key pad replaced. You would need the special cable to go between the two devices. I happen to have one in my box of goodies. The 460 would need to be new enough to have the current firmware which is quite likely.

The information and maps that you would glean from either would be the same. You cannot utilize auto swath with Choice #1. Auto swath is very nice but not quite so important with rectangular fields. Once you have sprayed with a mapping system you will be reluctant to ever spray again without one.

You mention keeping it simple and not spending much. With that in mind you should go with Choice 1 and forget about auto swath.
