Most of the Simmental herds up here are 1600-1800 lb cows, so no one's very concerned about birthweight until it starts pushing closer to 110. I know a purebreeder of Charolais in the 80s and 90s who used to say that if the calf didn't weigh at least 120 lbs then it was a disappointment.
