“These are the times that try men's souls.” | I would say 8-10 years the prime is gone on them. However have had some go 14-16 years with still good teeth. We mouth all cows every year when getting around 8 years old. We cull more for gummers than anything. But I'd rather keep a set of gummers over broken mouths.
Our KISS system is to tag cows as a coming two year old with year put into production. So all new heifers have a 24' on start of number of tag this year. Those tags seem to last about 8 years. If lost we replace with a out of series number, but cut corners off tag so we know it's a replacement number. That cow will automatically get mouthed every year at that point. |
