| Judging on Hybrid 85 planting recommendations, you'd plant 2.7 acres per unit of corn for an acre cost of $31.50 ($85/2.7). Channel recommendations come closer to 2.2 acres per unit for an acre cost of $93.20 ($205/2.2). That's comparing non-GMO hybrid costs across the two brands. I'm sure you can find Channel cheaper and more expensive but that's a close average. Difference of $61.70 an acre in seed cost or 17.5 bushels at $3.50/bu. If you apply that to Channel traited hybrids the traited per acre cost is closer to $118.20 ($260/2.2) or a difference of $86.70/acre or 25 bushels at $3.50/bu. There is obvious merit in what Hybrid 85 is trying to accomplish and they deserve a look. They're trying to bring ROI back onto the farm but just like anything, placement matters. | |
