You have to let the hay get dried out, stems and all, then let the humidity toughen the hay up enough to keep the leaves on. BUT, it can also get too wet with dew.
This here^. Good alfalfa in the east takes one extra day. Mow, Ted it next two mornings with dew on, rake it the third morning this is the finicky part enough but not to much dampness bale that eve or afternoon depends on drying conditions. Everyone has different tricks and varies by conditions, wet ground vs low humidity with strong wind. If you have a Alf grass mix it is MUCH easier. |
