First corn I ever planted was in 42 inch checked. then went to 38, then went to 30's. Then went to 15's then back out to 20 inch about 25 years ago an have stayed their. Disadvantage of narrow rows more planter units and more corn head row units. Advantages, erosion control, weed control, Deer stay along edges they don't usually go in very far, increase yield on poorer soil due to better plant distribution, Accurate seed placement due slower seed meter speed. I do spend a lot of money on equipment but I buy mostly $125 /unit seed corn and have a higher APH than most of my close neighbors with similar ground. (I harvest and haul several neighbors corn so I know). On good Black dirt with 3 foot of top soil I don't think there is much advantage. On clay I get pretty good results... Dennis
