I did not mean my comment to be political in nature (beyond my general 'I hate the government' attitude). My intent was to highlight how governmental actions can 'spook' ANY market, with wide ranging side effects, whether intended or not, with just a mere announcement or intent. Perhaps I am being to political for Market Talk (I hate when that happens). If so, please disregard.


Oh, that I agree with. Nothing demonstrates the law of unintended consequences better than govt. actions or announcements.

Edit: And I think a pause on expansion, when there's this much expansion under construction, may be a good idea. Wasn't there a big rush to build new ethanol plants before the subsidies expired? And then when the market collapsed a few years later, there were some spectacular bankruptcies and some farmers had to deliver corn that they knew they wouldn't be paid for.
We might have all been better off without that last few e-plants being built.
