Alpena MI | We are probably not a typical farm. I’m 32 and my business partner is an older brother. We started farming on our own 6 years ago. We farmed a couple years without out a line of credit, and today we are farming 800 acres with the credit line we got when we were farming 400 acres. We also started excavation, tiling, trucking and brokering chicken litter in that time. We mainly do all that ourselves without hired hands. We have some part time help through the year when we get into a pinch. So most bankers would say we have underutilized assets I would suppose, but in our area, we don’t have another tiler for 90 miles, trucks are very hard to come buy during harvest. I don’t know of any other excavators that do land clearing and fence row work. And we tend to be a bit independent anyway probably so we are where we are. | |
