Ft. Ripley MN | Thanks for the replies. I’m guessing we will be best to just chop it and add it to the pile. We chop our own feed. Just wanted some opinions from other guys… trying to learn and improve.
My plan was to get my feet wet into having our own supply of feed corn or earlage. We used to pick corn many years ago and grind it… made some very good feed but have since sold that equipment many years ago. Just been buying a corn mix from the coop and they do a wonderful job.
Long term plan is to get into buying a few loads of calves to background along with our own for some supplemental income. We feed a high roughage ration with just a little corn top dressed. Just thinking bumping up the cattle numbers it would be more conducive to grow the corn vs buy it. 2024 was just an experiment with going that direction. Corn or earlage would just be piled and covered with plastic just like the corn silage…. | |
